Baptême d’Aiden à Edimbourg

Rod et Penny ont baptisé dimanche 11 décembre leur deuxième enfant Aiden à Edimbourg en Ecosse à l’Eglise Saint Andrews. L’office a été célébré par le Révérend Ian Gilmour qui avait déjà baptisé Alastair et marié religieusement Rod et Penny en 2007. Ce fut une surprise pour les habitués de l’église qui ont été ravis de cette messe inhabituelle avec cornemuse oblige. Gordon Strachan, légende du football et grand ami de Rod a également assisté à la cérémonie. Rod revêtu pour la circonstance du tartan royal Stewart et le parrain, Olivier Lancaster, ont dit quelques mots et célébré l’événement autour d’un verre de vin avant de rejoindre pour un repas l’hôtel Balmoral.

Rod and Penny have baptised Sunday, December 11, Aiden, their second child in Edinburgh, Scotland, at the Church Saint Andrews. The service was celebrated by the Reverend Ian Gilmour, who had already baptised Alastair and also married Rod and Penny in 2007. It was a surprise for the other church-goers who were very pleased  to be part of this service. For this circonstance, they had right to a piper in their church.

Gordon Strachan, football legend , also attended the ceremony. Rod who wore, for the occasion,  the Royal Stewart tartan and the godfather Oliver Lancaster, said a few words and celebrated the event with a glass of wine before going for a meal to the Balmoral Hotel.

Nouvel album made in R.D. Stewart himself

Autre confidence au magazine Rolling Stone et des plus importantes celle-ci. Rod a confié qu’il avait écrit et enregistré sept nouvelles chansons pour ce nouvel album. « C’est prêt à partir ! Il y a sept nouvelles chansons par R.D. Stewart, c’est moi ! … Je ne pense pas avoir jamais écrit sept chansons pour un album jusqu’ici… Les gens disent que cela ressemble à Gasoline Alley revisité, mais je ne vois pas cela comme ça. C’est un coup de chapeau au passé et aussi un coup de chapeau à l’avenir … J’ai un peu plus pour écrire maintenant. Ce sont des chansons d’adultes. Ce n’est pas « Hot Legs » ou « Da Ya Think I’m Sexy? ». Tournant le dos définitivement au succès des Songbooks, Rod dit « C’est mort et enterré. J’en ai fait cinq. Nous avons exploité le filon jusqu’au bout. Ils se sont tous extrêmement bien vendus. Je crois 7 millions tous ensemble ».

Outre les sept nouvelles merveilles du monde signées Roderick David Stewart lui-même, l’album comportera également quatre reprises dont une de Tom Waits. L’album devrait paraître en mai 2012.

 In addition to these seven new wonders of the world signed by Roderick David Stewart himself, the album will also feature four cover, including  a Tom Waits song. The album is due in May 2012.

Faces or not Faces

Quelques confidences de Rod au Magazine Rolling Stone à propos de l’introduction des Faces au panthéon du Rock and Roll l’année prochaine.

Quand on lui demande s’il pense rejoindre le groupe en concert, la réponse est plutôt catégorique : « Oh, oui j’aimerai vraiment. S’ils sont tous disponibles, je ferais tout pour me rendre disponible ». Sur le fait de savoir s’il a pu imaginer que les Faces tournerait sans lui, Rod rétorque : « Non, pas du tout, mon pote ! » C’est quelque chose qu’il veut faire mais que cela ne dépend pas de lui mais surtout de Ronnie Wood qui reste accroché à ses engagements avec les Rolling Stones. S’il me dit soudainement « Hey, faisons une tournée la semaine prochaine », je dirais « Tiens Ronnie, j’ai des engagements ! J’ai des engagements pour l’année prochaine ».

« Si nous étions assis tous ensemble et dit «Faisons quelque chose l’été prochain ou faisons quelque chose pour une œuvre de charité » ou n’importe quelle raison, je le ferais. Ce n’est pas totalement exclu ».

Ce sera pour Rod la deuxième fois qu’il sera intronisé au Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. Il est entré dans le temple du Rock and Roll en 1994 en tant qu’artiste solo.

Faces or not Faces

Few confidences to Rolling Stone Magazine about the induction of The Faces into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year.

When asked if he thinks joining the band in concert, Rod answers quite categorically : "Oh, yeah! I'd love it. If they're all available, I'll definitely make myself available". About the fact that The Faces recently turned without him, Rod said that" it's something that I would want to do but it's getting a commitment from Ronnie who is hanging onto what the Stones are going to do. He'll suddenly say "Hey, let's tour next week!", I'll say "Hold on Ronnie, I've got commitments! I've got commitments for the next year".

"If we all sat around and said, "Let's do it next summer, or let's do it for charity" or whatever reason, I would do it. It's not totally ruled out".

It will be the second time that Rod will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. He was inducted into the temple of the Rock and Roll in 1994 as a solo artist.

Tournée australienne pour Rod en février 2012.

Pour tous ceux qui craignaient que Las Vegas accapare Rod pendant deux ans, c’est une bonne nouvelle, surtout pour les fans australiens qui retrouveront Rod dont la dernière tournée remonte à 2008. « J’ai hâte de revenir en Australie » a dit Rod. « J’ai un spectacle très animé et très coloré, c’est deux heures de hits et la musique parle d’elle-même »

Rod écrit son autobiographie

«Oubliez les squelettes dans le placard, ça va être chaussettes et culottes sous le lit » dit Rod.

Cela en dit long sur la prochaine autobiographie que Rod a promis d’écrire. L’accord a été signé avec Random House. Rod a finalement céder aux nombreuses sollicitations dont il a fait l’objet depuis des années de la part des éditeurs.

« J’ai longuement et sérieusement réfléchi avant de m’engager à écrire mon livre. C’est un drôle de truc que de raconter l’histoire de ma vie, mais j’ai vraiment l’intention de tout raconter  et de ne rien garder pour moi … J’ai eu une sacré vie, connu des gens extraordinaires et vécu quelques expériences étonnantes. J’ai attendu tout ce temps, presque jusqu’à ma cinquantième année de métier et réalisé que je ne peux pas le garder plus longtemps… »

Arnold Stiefel, le manager de Rod, confie qu’il est poursuivi depuis plus de 20 ans par des éditeurs pour qu’il tente de convaincre Rod d’écrire son autobiographie et comme Stiefel l’a appris il y a bien longtemps déjà, Rod est le maître du timing. Le moment est arrivé. « Rod est enfin prêt à prendre la plume et la légendaire et mythique, mais non moins toujours pertinente maison d’édition « Random House » est l’éditeur idéal ».

Susan Sandon, directeur de Cornerstone Publishing, filiale britannique du groupe Random House a déclaré : « Rod Stewart est l’un d’un petit nombre de musiciens qui mérite vraiment le titre de « légende du rock’n roll », une figure emblématique dont la véritable histoire de sa vie va fasciner les lecteurs et fans de musique du monde entier.

Rod writes his autobiography

« Forget skeletons in the closet; this one’s going to be socks and knickers under the bed » says Rod.

This speaks volumes about the upcoming autobiography that Rod has promised to write. The agreement was signed with Random House. Rod finally give in to the many requests he has received for years from the publishers.

« I thought long and hard before committing to write my book. It is a funny old thing telling my life story but I truly intend to hold nothing back… I’ve had quite a life, known some extraordinary people and had some amazing experiences. I’ve waited all this time, until my 50th year in the business and realise I can no longer put it off ».

Arnold Stiefel, Rod’s manager, says he is pursued for over 20 years by publishers for trying to convince Rod to write his autobiography and as Stiefel has taught many years ago, Rod is the master of timing. The time has come. « At long last Rod is ready to put pen to paper and Random House, legendary, fabled and never less than relevant, is the ideal publisher ».

Susan Sandon, director of Cornerstone Publishing in England, subsidiary of Random House Group said : « Rod Stewart is one of a small number of musicians who truly deserve the title of rock’n’roll legend - a truly iconic figure whose life story will fascinate readersz and music fans around the world. »

RETOUR A LAS VEGAS

Après un premier galop d’essai fructueux en 2010, et suite à la très forte demande, nous dit-on dans le communiqué du site officiel, Rod revient donc à Las Vegas cet été pour une période de deux ans au Colosseum du Caesars Palace. Son engagement commencera le 24 août pour une première étape de 18 représentations qui auront lieu les mercredis, samedis et dimanches. C’est au total 52 représentations sur deux ans que Rod donnera à Las Vegas.

Le spectacle intitulé « THE HITS » pour la circonstance et présenté par AEG Live, devrait bien sûr donner un large aperçu de toute la carrière de Rod et de ses principaux hits mais aussi quelques surprises ... « raretés et reprises « torrides »..., le tout dans une ambiance intime et proche de l’auditoire...

RETURN TO LAS VEGAS

After his first experience in 2010, Rod returns by overwhelming demand, as we are told in the press release from the official site, to Las Vegas.

Rod will be therefore in Las Vegas this summer for a period of two years at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. His engagement will start August 24 for a first run with 18 shows taking place on wedsnesdays, saturdays and sundays. It’s a total of 52 performances over two years that Rod will give in Las Vegas.

The show entitled « THE HITS » for this occasion, presented by AEG Live, should give a broad overwiew of the Rod’s career, of course, and his great hits but also a few surprise rarities and sizzling covers, the all in an intimate ambiance and close from audience...

HOMMAGE ASCAP

Le 27 avril 2011, la 28ème édition annuelle des Prix ASCAP Pop remettait à Rod, pour l’ensemble de sa contribution comme compositeur, et plus spécifiquement pour les titres qu’il écrivit dans les années 70, le prix « ASCAP Founders Award ». Au cours de cette cérémonie, Rod a raconté sa première tentative d’écriture avec son vieux copain Ron Wood, où ils se sont retrouvés totalement ivres devant une page désespérément blanche, ce qui fit dire à la maman de Ronnie « Je ne crois pas que les Beatles ont quelque chose à craindre ».

Il a également ajouté avant de remercier les mères de ses enfants dont cinq étaient présents à l’Hôtel Renaissance Hollywood à Los Angeles, que l’hommage de l’ASCAP « sera peut être le coup de pied au cul qu’il lui fallait pour recommencer à écrire... »

Darren Criss a complété l’hommage rendu à Rod avec une version ballade au piano de « Da Ya Think I’m Sexy ».

Commentaire du président de l’ASCAP, Paul Williams : « Tout au long de sa carrière, Rod a abordé de nombreux genres musicaux différents, offrant ses talents prolifiques d’écriture, sa voix unique, ses performances pleine d’énergie devant les publics du monde entier. Il continue d’être une voix importante de la musique d’aujourd’hui et nous sommes très fiers de lui décerner le prix de l’ASCAP Founders ».

ASCAP AWARD

On 27 April 2011, the 28th annual ASCAP Pop Awards has honored Rod for his contribution as a songwriter, and particularly for the string of hits he wrote in the 1970s.

He’s received the award « ASCAP Founders Award ». During the awards ceremony, Rod recounted his first attempt with his bandmate Ron Wood to write together, and where they wound up completely drunk with desperately blank pages, which sent word to Ronnie’s mother « I don’t think the Beatles have got anything to worry about ». He also added, before thanking the mothers of this eight children, five of whom were presents at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles, that « the ASCAP honor will maybe give me a push up the bum to start writing again ».

Darren Criss has completed the tribute to Rod with a piano ballad version of « Da Ya Think I’m Sexy? »

LIBRE ... « C’est comme revenir au bon vieux temps, sans personne pour vous dire quoi faire ». Jrecords n’a pas renouvelé son contrat, C’est la légitime récompense de Clive Davis pour la sage décision de Rod d’arrêter la série des Songbooks... Et Rod de dire : Je suis libre maintenant, alors en attendant je m’amuse. J’adore mon ex-boss Clive Davis et tous ceux qui travaillent à Jrecords, mais  de nos jours c’est difficile. Ma fille vient de terminer son premier album et je continue à essayer de lui expliquer que les maisons de production ne s’intéressent pas à la longévité ou à la carrière d’un artiste. .. Vous ne valez que ce que vaut votre dernier album ou single ... Je pense  que ce serait trop de travail pour moi de créer mon propre label  ou une licence pour mes albums. Je crois toujours dans le système de label, mais en fin de compte, je suis heureux d’être arrivé à faire ce que j’ai fait... »

FREE ... « It’s like back in the old days, with no one telling you what to do ». Jrecords  didn’t renew his contract, it’s the just return from Clive Davis against the Rod’s wise decision  stopping  series of Songbooks.

And Rod tells : « I’am a free agent now. J has not made me an offer, so in the meantime, I’m having fun. I love my ex-boss Clive Davis and everyone who works at J, but these days it’s hard. My daughter just finished her first album, and I keep trying to explain to her that record companies are only interested in the bottom line; they’re not interested in longevity or an artist’s career. You’re only as good as your last single or album... I think it would be too much work for me to start my own label or license my albums. I still believe in the label system, but in a nutshell, I’m pleased that I came along when I did... »

Rod et Jeff réunis pour un album ?

C’est en tout cas ce que Rod a déclaré au magazine Rolling Stone. Pour la première fois depuis le départ de Rod du Jeff Beck Group à la fin des années 60, mis à part l’épisodique collaboration de Rod en 1985 pour l’enregistrement de People Get Ready pour l’album « Flash » de Jeff, les deux compères en en projet commun l’enregistrement d’un nouvel album.

« Nous faisons des progrès » dit Rod. Jeff et moi avons déjeuné ensemble juste avant Noël ». Il va enregistrer plusieurs titres avec son groupe en Février à San Francisco et il me les enverra afin d’avancer ». Selon Arnold Stiefel, le manager de Rod, « ils ont vraiment quelque chose d’intelligent en préparation, c’est dans l’esprit « funck ».

Intéressant si l’on sait que Rod n’a plus rien écrit depuis « When We Were The New Boys » en 1998... Il semblerait que ce soit à la suite de leur dernière rencontre en 2009, lors d’un concert de Jeff Beck à Los Angeles où Rod était monté sur scène, que Jeff aurait pensé à faire un album avec Rod. Quelques mois après cette rencontre, il déclarait à Rolling Stone : « Pour moi, je dois revenir stylistiquement en arrière de 20 ou 30 ans pour correspondre à ce que Rod fait. Non pas que cela soit censé être désobligeant. Il aime les sixties, il adore le blues. Il aime les vieux trucs. Rien de pointu, ni de nouveau ».

Blues ou funck, cet album sera le bienvenu pour tous les fans de Rod...  Attendons !

Rod and Jeff Beck together for an album ?

In any case, it’s what Rod told the magazine Rolling Stone. For the first time since the Rod’s departure of the Jeff Beck Group in the late ‘60s, apart from their occasional collaboration in 1985 for « People Get Ready » on the Jeff’s album « Flash », Rod and Jeff have a common project and think really recording together a new album.

« We’re making progress » says Rod. Jeff and I had a lunch together just before Christmas. He’s going up to record some tracks with his band in February in San Francisco and to send them over to me, so we’re making progress ».

According to Arnold Stiefel, Rod’s manager, «they have some really clever things planned » -It’s mind fucking stuff ».

Interesting if we know that Rod has written nothing since « When We Were The New Boys » in 1998... It seems it’s that after their last meeting in 2009 at a Jeff Beck’s concert in Los Angeles where Rod came onstage, that Jeff would have thought about doing an album with Rod. A few months after that meeting, Jeff said in Rolling Stone : « For me, I’d have to turn the clock back 20 or 30 years, stylistically, to match what Rod does. No that that is meant to be a derogatory statement. He loves the Sixties. He loves blues. He loves old stuff. Nothing cutting-edge and new ».

Blues or funck, this album will be welcome for all Rod’s fans. Wait and see !

CONGRATULATIONS TO ROD AND PENNY FOR THE BIRTH OF THEIR SECOND CHILD.

Aiden Stewart was born February 16, 2011 at The Portland Hospital in London. Their spokesman said: "After the long-awaited arrival of their second child, Rod and Penny are proud and thrilled  to welcome Alastair’s baby brother Aiden into the world. Born February 16th 2011, weighing 7lb 12 oz, mother and baby are healthy and blissfully happy ».

L'annonce a été faite le 13 janvier lors de l'émission américaine "The Ellen DeGeneres Show". Le 2 décembre dernier, les nominations pour les Grammy Awards 2011, la plus prestigieuse récompense musicale aux Etats-Unis, ont été révelées lors d'un show télévisé, et la grande nouvelle est que le dernier album "Fly Me To The Moon" - The Great American Songbook Vol.5" a été nominé dans la catégorie "Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album". Ses adversaires sont Michael Bublé, Johnny Mathis, Barbra Streisand et ... Barry Manilow. Cruel dilemne pour Clive Davis ! Croisons les doigts pour que Rod remporte son deuxième Grammy Awards, même si nous aurions préféré voir Rod nominé dans la catégorie "Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance" où est finalement sa vraie place aux côtés d'Eric Clapton, Paul Mc Cartney, Robert Plant et Neil Young  (tous de la même génération,  ... Keep'on rockin' ! ...)

La cérémonie officielle aura lieu à Los Angeles le dimanche 13 février 2011 au Staples Centre et sera retransmise sur CBS.

Le cinquième volet de la série "The Great American Songbooks" sortira le 19 octobre prochain.

"Fly Me To The Moon" (The Most Danceable Songbook yet (!...) co-produit par Rod Stewart, Richard Perry, Clive Davis et Lauren Wild nous livre ici douze standards "emblématiques" de l'histoire musicale américaine (!...) de Cole Porter à Henri Mancini en passant par ... Charles Trénet (vous savez,  la mer, qu'on voit danser le long des golfes clairs, a des reflets d'argent, la mer....). Les dîners spectacles, aux dires d'un Clive Davis très enthousiaste du holp-up qu'il vient de rééditer, ne seront plus jamais les mêmes "over the world" (!...)

"Fly Me To The Moon" (The Most danceable yet Songbook (!...) co-produced by Rod Stewart, Richard Perry, Clive Davis and Lauren Wild delivers within twelve standard "emblematic" of American musical history (! ...) from Cole Porter to Henry Mancini through ... Charles Trenet (you know, "the sea, we see dancing along the clear gulfs, has silver reflections, the sea ...") . Dinner parties, according to Clive Davis,very enthusiastic after his new holp-up, will never be the same "over the world." (!...)

“Il y a quelques années, j'ai eu la chance de me lier d'amitié avec un GI américain qui avait servi pendant la Seconde Guerre Mondiale et participé activement au débarquement du "D-day". Il m'a dit, avec son accent de Brooklyn, et je cite : "Rawwwd, quand vas-tu refaire quelques unes de ces vieilles chansons, parce que tu leur donnes un souffle nouveau". C'est vraiment toute l'inspiration dont j'avais besoin. Merci Monsieur et que Dieu vous bénisse. Voici le numéro 5."

“A couple of years ago, I had the good fortune to be friend an American GI who had served in World War II and had been actively involved in the D-Day landings. He said in a broad, Brooklyn accent, and here I quote, ‘Rawwwd, when are you gonna be doin' some of them old songs again 'cause you make them sound brand new.’ That was all the inspiration I needed. Rod et Penny ont annoncé l'heureuse nouvelle cet été. Ils attendent un bébé pour le mois de mars prochain. "Nous sommes enchantés et ravis de pouvoir annoncer à Alastair qu'il allait être le grand frère d'un petit bébé" ont-ils déclarés dans un communiqué.

Ce sera un garçon ! "Alastair est dans les nuages" dit sa maman, il espère que les docteurs ne se sont pas trompés et que c'est bien un garçon".

Penny a révélé qu'elle avait dû subir trois fécondations in vitro avant de tomber enceinte. Elle a dû également changer son régime alimentaire à base de poisson après la découverte d'un taux anormalement élevé de mercure dans le corps. Elle est convaincue que de ne plus manger de poisson a sûrement aidé à sa nouvelle maternité.

RSOA souhaite à Penny, Rod, Alastair et le petit frère tout le bonheur du monde et toutes nos félicitations.

Rod et Penny have announced the happy news this summer. They are expecting a baby next March. "We were thrilled and delighted to be able to tell Alastair that he was going to be the big brother to a little baby", they declared in a statement.

It will be a boy ! "Alastair is absolutely over the moon" says his mum. "He hopes the doctor's not wrong about it being a boy".

Penny has revealed she had three rounds of IVF (in vitro fertilisation) before to fall pregnant. She  has changed her fish-based diet after discover an anormal mercury levels. She is convinced that stop to eat some fish helped to her new maternity.
