Le dernier album où l’on trouve Rod auteur est «When We Were The New Boys», sorti en 1998… Une bonne quinzaine d’années … Il était effectivement vraiment temps ! Si Rod reconnaît avoir perdu l’inspiration et l’envie d’écrire au cours de ces deux dernières décennies, le fait d’avoir écrit récemment son autobiographie a apparemment réveillé sa plume. « C’est arrivé à l’improviste. Un déclic et j’ai réalisé que j’avais de nouveau des choses à écrire et des choses que je voulais chanter. Une foule de sujets sur une vie entière, en fait … »

Dans cet entretien, Rod révèle aussi sa joie d’écrire à nouveau et qu’il est heureux d’avoir redécouvert son amour pour le rock et attend avec impatience son retour à ce genre de musique. Il attribue aussi à son vieux copain guitariste Jim Cregan son retour à l’écriture.
« Il y a un an, j’étais assis chez moi en Angleterre et Cregan est venu et a dit « Viens, nous allons essayer d’écrire une chanson ». J’ai dit « Non, je n’ai pas le courage. Ces temps sont révolus ». Mais nous nous sommes assis, j’ai commencé à fredonner une mélodie et il l’a emmenée et me l’a renvoyée en disant « Ecoute, c’est assez bon ». Alors j’ai écrit quelques paroles sur cette mélodie et depuis lors ça coule comme une rivière ».

Today, the first single from the album, "She Makes Me Happy" is already available on iTunes. The second single "The Finest Woman" will make its first U.S. radio on April 8.
The last album where you can find Rod author is "When We Were The New Boys", released in 1998 ... About fifteen years ... It was actually really time! If Rod admits having lost the inspiration and the desire to write during the past two decades, the fact having recently written his autobiography apparently has woke up his pen. " It was clean out of the blue. Something clicked and I realised I had things to write about again and things I wanted to sing about. A whole life's worth of topics, in fact."
"Suddenly ideas for lyrics were piling up in my head," he said in a statement. "Next thing I knew, I had a song called 'It's Over' about divorce and separation. And now I was getting up in the middle of the night and scrambling for a pen to write things down, which has never happened to me. I finished seven or eight songs very quickly and I still wasn't done and it became apparent that I would eventually have a whole album of material to record, which had never happened before."
In this interview, Rod also revealed he’s enjoying songwriting again and his happiness to have rediscovered his love for rock and is looking forward to his return to the genre. He also attributes to his old friend guitarist Jim Cregan his return to writing.
“About a year ago, I was sitting at my house in England, and [Cregan] came around and said, ‘Come on, let’s try to write a song,’” says Stewart. “And I said, ‘No, I can’t be bothered. Those days are over.’ But we sat down, I started humming a melody and he took it away and sent it back and said, ‘Listen, this is pretty good,’ so I wrote some words for it and ever since then it’s just been flowing like a river.”
