Around 6 pm, we leave The Frog to head to the nearby AccorHotels Arena. Unfortunately, the little band of Rod's Friends will have to separate and everyone join his place.

For a concert so expected, they could have avoided us the distressing spectacle of the "first part", a DJ behind a mixer that diffuses several famous titles rather interesting, Diana Ross, The Four Tops, Stevie Nicks ... When after a moment, we are told that there is an intermission of 20 minutes. Ah Ok, that was the first part! ... The AccordHotels Arena fills up slowly but to our great relief the hall fills. One wonders how when you know there's no publicity for this concert. Paul McCartney or Elton John are entitled to  4 x 3 m advertising boards even in the suburbs. But not Rod obviously! Let's salute the feat! Some will quickly come to explain that the room was not full. We do not care, we wanted Rod in Paris. HE'S THERE ! Nothing will spoil our pleasure.

It is 8:15 pm when the miracle takes place. The  curtain with the design of the latest album "Blood Red Roses" rises on "Having A Party", followed immediately by the must "Young Turks". What to inflame the Parisian public. Rod looks in good  mood and very fit. We will even be entitled to his apologies for having drop out France so long. The scene is amazing, a giant screen of a very high quality occupies the full width of the stage, sublime montages of graphic images and documents highlight each song.

The Dream Team so dear to our heart has been dismantled. After the departure of Paul Warren and Katja Rieckmann, it is now Conrad Korsch, Di Reed, Bridget Cady and Chuck Kentis. Rest  Anna Jacoby, Don Kirckpatrick, David Palmer and our friend Jimmy Roberts. Surprising return of Kevin Savigar the old accomplice of Rod after all these years.

We did not believe it until entering the hall of the AccorHotels Arena. Twenty-four years! ... 1998 canceled, 2007 canceled, and 2019? ... He did it, this concert in Paris! This Saturday, July 6 for us French fans, it is July 14 before time!

Lord Scotty gave us rendez-vous in the afternoon in a pub "Le Frog" near Bercy where we hoped to find some human warmth between fans and a little freshness away from the heat wave that has raged for several days in Paris. The pleasure of meeting together exhacerbe a little more our impatience. A little disappointed with the musical programming of the pub that play from time to time titles of Rod but very largely focused on the ... Songbooks! Not enough to set the mood. The faulty air conditioning does not, however, affect our good mood.

Retour surprenant surpre

Of course the tubes follow one another, we know them "Some Guys Have All The Luck", "Tonight's The Night", "Forever Young", but why the total absence of the new album. Many of the Stewartian hits are missing "Hot Legs", "You're In My Heart", "The First Cut is The Deepest", "The Old Heart Of Mine", "You Wear It Well", "Sweet Little Rock'n Roll", "Twistin 'The Night Away", "Downtown Train" to the benefit of songs that Rod more rarely sings on stage, "The Killing Of Georgie", "Reason To Believe" and especially the sublime interpretation of "I 'd Rather Go Blind" where Rod's voice regains all its power that we thought lost forever. For the anecdote, Rod explains that this song was recorded with his friend Ron Wood in two shots with two bottles of wine ... French... he says with a great smile. Another surprise, "Dirty Old Town" that people around us take back instantly.

Bien sûr les tubes se succèdent, on les connait "Some Guys Have All The Luck", "Tonight's The Night", "Forever Young", mais pourquoi l'absence totale du nouvel album. Bon nombre de tubes stewartiens manquent à l'appel "Hot Legs", "You're In My heart", "The First Cut is The Deepest", "This Old Heart Of Mine", "You Wear It Well", "Sweet Little Rock'n roller" "Twistin' The Night Away", "Downtown Train" au profit de chansons que Rod chante plus rarement sur scène, "The Killing Of Georgie", "Reason To Believe" et surtout la sublime interprétation de "I'd Rather Go Blind" où la voix de Rod retrouve toute sa puissance que l'on croyait perdue à jamais.

Thanks to Jimmy Roberts for his great interpretation of "Going Home" of ... who already ... looking for Rod "Oh yes, Mark Knopfler. It's a pity that Emerson Swinford is not up, on the intro in particular. Not everybody can have the virtuosity of Mark Knopfler (or Paul Warren's).

Our new chorists are doing well on Donna Summer's mega hit "She Works Hard For The Money"  before Rod takes over with "Baby Jane" which explodes the AccorHotels Arena.

And then, it's "Maggie May"! Rod have a good time frankly in the middle of the balloons, a Celtic scarf in his hands, while we clap our hands with all our might as to retain him a little longer ... The curtain falls this time for good before same as the song is finished. We shout, we call "We want Rod" knowing very well that he will not come back ... Well not tonight! One day may be at the Olympia, if the wish he expressed in an interview to sing in this place is realized ... Let's hope that this return to Paris will have reconciled Rod with France.

Thank you Sir Rod for this wonderful and unexpected evening.

As we join our friends at the Novotel behind Bercy, Lord Scotty and Stef manage to meet the musicians very quickly behind the scenes and even take a few photos.

Unfortunately Rod has already gone ...

"Sailing" sounds the beginning of the end of this great moment. On fireworks images, Rod greets surrounded by his musicians and chorists. The curtain falls a first time. No need to long applause and crie for an encore , the party resumes with "Da Ya Think I" m Sexy? " on a super colorful scene, drowned under big muticolores balloons that flutter above our heads.

Only concession to "Blood Red Roses" Rod dedicated to the memory of Johnny Hallyday, who he met him sometimes in Los Angeles, his brilliant recovery of "Rollin 'and Tumblin'".

No balloon either. We were hoping to get Rod's attention with our banner and maybe a shot in our direction.
