THE YEARS "FREAK" ...

Rod Stewart finds again hits parades in November 80 with 'Foolish Behaviour'(4th UK and 12th US) and the single "Passion" ( 5th US). The recording was realized with the group which accompanies him on stage : Jim Cregan and Gary Grainger (guitars), Kevin Savigar ( keyboards), Phil Chen (bass), Phil Kenzie (sax) and Carmine Appice (drums). They also participate to the composition of the titles. On this album, Rod plays guitar and harmonica, drew the cover of the album and writes "My Girl" for his daughter.

The group is purely dismissed in its almost totality further to a disagreement concerning a passage TV. Guitars are then taken back by Jim Cregan, Robin Le Mesurier, Wally Stocker, the bass by Jay Davis, the drum by Tony Brock, the sax by Jimmy Zavala.

"Body wishes"" releases in June 83. The 1st single " Baby Jane " is n°1 in England in October. This new album knows a considerable success in Europe but is coolly welcomed in the USA. Two other singles are extracted from the album, " What Am I gonna Do? " N°3 in UK and "Sweet Surrender". Body Wishes and Baby Jane is respectively the album and Rod Stewart's single the most sold in France. It is this day, the only album where Rod wrote the totality of the titles composing the album. Stewart begins on May 83 a marathon tour through Europe and Israel. It is the most impressive tour which Rod have never made, with a stage 50 metres long and its famous " Pink Lady ". For information, this year there, Rod visits in France not less than 7 cities (Lille, Paris, Versailles, Nantes, Lyon, Fréjus, Avignon).

" Jeff and Woody brought me a demo of " People get ready ". We listened to it and they said to me that they would have seen well me singing this title. The idea pleased me. I answered them: " let us return to the studio and I shall sing it for you ". And I saw that since, it had become a single. "

ROD STEWART 1985.

Plusieurs reprises se distinguent dans cet opus, "Just Like A Woman" de Bob Dylan, "How Long" de Paul Carrack, et "Tear it Up" rockabilly des 50's. Baptisée "Le Grand Tour Of America & Canada".

She Won't Dance With Me".

Fin 82, Rod enregistre "That's what friends are for" pour la Bande Originale du Film "Nightshift", composé par Burt Bacharach.

FOREVER YOUNG ... FOREVER YOUNG ...

When appears "Every beat of my heart" (5th in UK and 28 US under the title of ' Rod Stewart ') in July 86, Rod aspires to a return to the roots of his music. " Love touch ", the song of the film " Legal Eagles " is the 1st single of the album. It also contains " Every beat of my heart ", number 2 in England, tribute to its Scottish origins and also the Beatles' song " In My Life " and " Another heartache ", title which Rod Stewart wrote with Bryan Adams in a rather unexpected way.

.... I met Bryan Adams only much later to Wembley, during this concert for the birthday of Prince Charles. " Another heartache " is a piece which we composed by the telephone. It is crazy, but we were never face to face to write this title. He phoned me one day to say to me that he held verses but that he did not manage to compose the refrain. I tried myself, then I contacted a lyric writer who said to me that he wrote only verses. I did not have more than to end the song myself. It's what we call an ultramodern process of composition.... " ROD STEWART 1986

A new tour marathon begins. On July 10th to Wembley Stadium it's more lucky 40 000 persons that will see the short-lived reformation of the FACES. This evening there, the bass is held by Bill Wyman des Stones, and it's at the end of the show that they will be joined by Ronnie Lane, fighting against a multiple sclerosis and that Rod will bring him on his wheelchair for a final highlight.

For the needs of the soundtrack of Steven Spielberg's film " Inner Space " Rod records again " Twistin' the night away " in 1987

Some guys have all the luck".

ROD STEWART 1986

Separated from Alana with whom he divorces in 84, Rod records, under the leadership of Michaël Ormatian, "Camouflage" (8th UK and 18 US) a very synthetic album. He finds again American charts, in July 84. On this album, Rod invites Jeff Beck who is credited in the guitar on three titles of which the single "Infatuation". The 2nd extract will be " Some guys have all the luck ". This is an album containing only 8 tracks, of which the very rock "Bad For You" as well as the cover of FREE "All Right Now" and Robert Palmer "Can We Still Be Friends". Summer 1984, Rod Stewart leaves on tour in United States and decides to take on tour with him his usual group and his old friend Jeff Beck, but Beck whose character is also electric as its guitar, leaves the group at the end of 7 concerts on 86 planned. Encouraged by his success, Rod visits on 1985, for a series of concerts, Australia.

In spite of the disagreement with Jeff Beck, the two accomplices meet again for a new single " People get ready " which will appear on Jeff Beck's LP "Flash" during summer 85.

Baptized " The Great Tour Of America & Canada ", the tour which is a big triumph will obtain a promotion of size because one of the concerts will be broadcast by satellite since Los Angeles Forum through all the planet, late in the year 81. Only Elvis Presley before him had benefited from this technology. This concert broadcast on all the channels TV of the world, shows us a Rod Stewart in physical and vocal great form. Some extracts of this concert will moreover be included in the double album 'Absolutely Live' in 82. This double album live redraws two decades of "Stewartesque" tubes, with titles interpreted in a masterful way. Almost no tube was forgotten since "Rock My Plimsoul" to "Young Turks" by way of "Gasoline Alley" or "She Won' t Dance With Me". The group, now correctly stabilized, assures a high-quality show. Moreover the final, with "Sailing" recorded to Wembley Stadium and a public taking back every word in perfect accord forces the admiration. We also find Tina Turner as well as Kim Carnes in guest on "Stay With Me". This album contains two titles which will not appear any more on its republication on CD: " Guess I' ll always love you " and " The great pretender ".

At the end of 82, Rod records 'That's what friends are for' for the Soundtrack of the film ' Nightshift', composed by Burt Bacharach.

We are in 1978, Rod meets Alana Hamilton who will become later Mrs Stewart (in April, 79). In this year of World cup of football which takes place in Argentina, Rod The Mod encourages his team with a single "Ole Ola" and "Que Sera" in B-side recorded with the Scottish national team, which will be born in May, 78 and will go up until British Top 4 .

On 1988, Rod returns in studio together with Andy Taylor, then ex guitarist of Duran Duran as well as Bernard Edwards from Chic. Together they compose several titles as " Lost in you " which will be the first single of the excellent album "Out of Order" (11th UK and 20th US) which release in June 88. The album, very "Rock FM", will be sold to more than 4 million copies through the United States and will become one of the best sales of the year in Canada. The album contains 2 very good covers of Otis Redding "Try a little Tenderness", and "Nobody Knows You", Will follow simples " Forever young ", and " My heart can' t tell you no " which reaches the top 5. The very disco-rock " Crazy about her " appears during summer 89, the last single of the album and the last one snook to the detractors of Da Ya think I'm Sexy? Rod who seems decided to end this decade in highlight, finishes a tour of two years on the American continent which was an indisputable triumph.

At the end of the year 89, appears for Europe only "The Best of Rod Stewart", in whom a new version of " This old heart of mine " is recorded with Ronald Isley, as well as an unpublished work, Tom Waits's " Downtown train " which climbs up to the American summit of charts. In the stride, a box called "Storyteller- The Complete Anthology 1964-1989" is published, this one includes thirty years of career of the singer with a lot of unpublished works; a cover of The Bee Gees recorded with Booker T and The MG's " To love somebody ", found in the pockets of one of the old jackets that Rod piled up in his wardrobe! And a new version of " I don't want to talk about it". The whole accompanied with a notebook commented by our man himself.

'Tonight I'm Yours' appears in November 81 (8th UK and 11th US) which will be preceded by the eponymic single, the simple second " Young turks " will be classified n°5 in the United States, where Rod's success does not contradict itself. On this album, "Sonny" is written for Sean, the born last one, of the couple Alanna/Rod. Several covers distinguish themselves in this opus, Dylan's "Just Like A Woman", Paul Carrack's " How Long ", and rockabilly "Tear it Up" of 50's. A new tour begins in the middle 1981, it's more specifically centred on the North American continent.

L'album comporte 2 très bonnes reprises, d'Otis Redding "Try a little Tenderness", et "Nobody Knows You", Suivront les simples "Forever young", "My heart can't tell you no" qui atteint le top 5.

I don't want to talk about it".

L’idée m’a plu. ROD STEWART 1985
