Legend has it that Rod was noticed at the age of 15 by the Brentford Football Club, and signed a training contract with this club of third division, which would have left after a fortnight, not really enjoying by the chores usually attributed to football apprentices, such as cleaning players' shoes or sweeping the locker room. Rod in his autobiography sets the record straight. Although he did a try for Brentford in 1960, Rod admits that he was never called back and his football carreer stopped here to his father's desperation. Initially a supporter of Arsenal, Rod's brothers instill in him their passion for the Scottish national team, a passion that will never deny. We will forget the stupid song "Ole Ola" recorded in 1978 to support the Scottish team to the mondial cup and that didn't have the desired effect on the national team.
